THE ORIGIN

The brainchild of bassist Evan Hillier [ex 222], HOG materialized under the bleak skylines of Toronto circa 2016  as a drum and bass duo. Inspired heavily by bands such as NoMeansNo, Pigment Vehicle, Big Black, Death From Above 1979  Tool, and maybe even a little Elton John - Evan wrote and recorded a handful of songs with the mighty and powerful Cole Howson. Though a mere fragment of what they were to become, the early 'Toronto HOG' demos can still be found to this day on the interweb.

Upon leaving the Big Smoke and returning to his hometown of Victoria BC, in 2019, Hillier sought out another Drummer to shred tasty licks alongside - enter Caleb Belknap [Decryptor, ex Happy Ending]. HOG began anew. Practicing at Belknap's studio on a rural farm, they honed their songs of yesteryear and sharpened their proverbial 'chops'. After the social depression that befell the world ended, HOG was keen to unleash their songs on the mean streets of Vancouver Island but then they thought, "man we need someone who can sing - like really good - and maybe play guitar too". The idea of a power trio intrigued them and so they reached out to old high-school chum and fellow shredder Liam McLaren [ex - Zoo Riots, The Archers]. McLaren brought a certain "je ne sais quoi" that turned HOG from just another crusty punk band into something sharper, handsomer and probably easier to listen to.

After terrorizing their local music scene, HOG set to work recording their first album with good friend and award winning producer Liam Moes. Critics and people who have heard them describe the songs as "really friggin' sick"! The album, featuring 'Sunday Mass', is set to release in 2025.
